Curriculum Vitae
Aymo Brunetti has been a full professor at the Department of Economics at the University of Bern since 2012. From 2014 to 2024, he was also Managing Director of the Department of Economics.
He studied economics at the University of Basel where he was awarded a doctorate in 1992 and qualified for teaching as a university professor in 1996. From 1994 to 1995 he spent a year as visiting scholar at the Department of Economics at Harvard University. From 1997 to 1999 Mr Brunetti was visiting professor at the University of Saarland in Saarbrücken, Germany. In this period, he also did consultancy work for the World Bank, the OECD and the International Finance Corporation.
In 1999 Mr Brunetti joined the Swiss Federal Department of Economic Affairs where he soon became member of the board of the newly founded State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and headed its Economic Analysis Division. From 2003 to 2012 he was head of the Economic Policy Directorate at SECO. In February 2012 he took up his current position at the University of Bern where from 2012 to 2019 he also acted as manging director of the Center for Regional Economic Development (CRED).
After moving to university, he continued to work in economic policy consulting, particularly in the area of financial market regulation, where he has chaired various federal expert groups in recent years. He is also a member of boards of directors and of the Assembly of the International Committee of the Red Cross.
Aymo Brunetti is married and has two adult children.
